We are business partners as well as capital providers. We work with experienced teams and our deals ensure alignment of interests, enduring relationships and long-term success.

Capital is allocated only to markets with attractive through-cycle returns.

Deal structure, coupled with active underwriting, results in strong downside protection and continuous event-sensitive adjustment.

Lindsey McMurray
Managing Partner

More than 15 years PE experience with a focus on Financial Services. Before founding Pollen Street Capital in 2013, Lindsey ran the £1.1bn Special Opportunities Fund within RBS.

Managing Partner

Lindsey founded Pollen Street Capital in 2013 after leading the spin out from RBS. She is Chairman of the investment committee and also serves as a non-executive director on the boards of several portfolio companies including Shawbrook Bank.

She has been a private equity investor for more than 15 years with a particular focus on the Financial Services sector. Before she founded Pollen Street Capital, Lindsey led the team managing the £1.1bn Special Opportunities Fund within RBS and also spent six years as a Partner at Cabot Square Capital, focusing on operating investments in real estate and other asset backed investments, together with investments in the financial services sector.

She has a First Class Honours degree in Accounting and Finance and studied for an MPhil in Finance from Strathclyde University.

Outside of work Lindsey is a keen runner having successfully completed the Marathon Des Sables in 2007 and 2011. She also supports a number of charities with a particular focus on mentoring children in state schools and a number of projects in Africa.

James Scott
Partner

A Chartered Accountant and private equity investor since 2004 with recent focus on credit opportunities and financial services businesses. Transactions include Krunch, Spring, Shawbrook Bank and Target Group.

James Scott

Partner

James has been a private equity investor since 2004 and has experience originating and managing investments across a range of sectors. Over the last five years James has focused on investing in credit opportunities and financial services businesses.

Prior to joining the team, James qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC, worked for E&Y in an IT consulting role and, previously worked as a commercial director for a software engineering firm. James has a degree in History and Politics from Exeter University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Key recent transactions include Krunch, Spring, Shawbrook Bank and Target Group. James is currently a non-executive of Target Group and is a member of the Group Pricing and Risk Committee for Shawbrook Bank.

Ian Gascoigne
Partner

An economist with seven years experience in FS PE. Non-executive of Erno Laszlo and Cashflows. Previously managed investments in Catalina Re and Condor Ferries.

Ian has seven years of experience in private equity investing with Pollen Street Capital and RBS Equity Finance. He is an economist by background who has extensive experience of financial services and credit investing, and prior to joining the team worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants. Ian has a First Class Honours degree in Economics from London School of Economics and an Mphil in Economics with distinction from Cambridge University.

He is currently a non-executive of Erno Laszlo and Cashflows, and formerly sat on the board of Arrow Global Group plc. He has previously managed investments in insurance run-off specialist Catalina Re (exited in 2013) and Condor Ferries (exited in 2009).

Eight years PE and FS experience, previously in sectors such as aerospace and infrastructure. Recent transactions include Link Loans, Moneycorp and Cashflows.

Michael has eight years of experience of private equity investing. As well as financial services, he has been active across a number of sectors including aerospace and infrastructure.

Prior to joining the team, Michael spent three years at OC&C Strategy Consultants, focusing on strategy and private equity projects across a range of industries . He has a First Class degree in Chemistry from Oxford University and went on to complete a masters’ degree in carbohydrate chemistry.

Key recent transactions include Link Loans, Moneycorp and Cashflows. Michael is a non-executive director on the board of Cashflows.

Shawbrook Bank is a UK challenger bank providing best in class financial products and services to under served segments of the SME and consumer sectors.

The business provides commercial mortgages, asset finance and invoice financing to SMEs and various loan types to consumers including home improvement loans, secured loans and unsecured loans.

Lending to SME’s accounts for over 70% of the lending assets, differentiating it from other challenger banks.

Shawbrook was founded in 2011 and has since grown rapidly with the balance sheet increasing from £20m to over £2bn by June 2014 with over 100,000 customers.

The balance sheet is financed through an online retail savings proposition which offers consistent rates to consumers and SMEs and has also accessed the funding for lending scheme.

Pollen Street is a shareholder and funder of Zopa, the first peer-to-peer lending platform. To date, Zopa has lent more than £2.2bn to UK consumers, over £670m of that in the last 12 months.
